Directional Behaviors of an Annotated Body: Blue & Green

2024

Zelda Thayer-Hansen

Acrylic, pencil, charcoal.

$2,000 each

Blue and Green are sibling pieces from Zelda Thayer-Hansen’s undergraduate thesis work, Frock Logic: Directional Behaviors of an Annotated Body. During performances and instances of creative flow, Thayer-Hansen traced body movements as free marks on a surface. These paintings memorize the existence of a queer body coping with the cycle of constant external stimuli in their environment, mirrored by snippets of Laban movement notation. The immense intricacies of human movement often resist such standardization, and in some ways, gestural marks capture motion more precisely than complex notation ever could.

About the Artist

Zelda Thayer-Hansen is an interdisciplinary performance artist and sculptor documenting the complexities of fleeting, repetitive human interaction and their trans-embodied experiences grappling with normalized binary systems in society through interactive and process-based performances. Their presented works often demonstrate the residual effects of such performances as physical artifacts and ephemeral markings on paper, object, and garment. Thayer-Hansen received their BFA in Sculpture + Expanded Practice from the Honors Tutorial College at Ohio University and is currently an intern at Praxis Fiber Workshop in Cleveland, Ohio. They have recently shown work in Cleveland Public Theater’s SoftLaunch Festival, Plex Arts Fest, SeD Gallery, and ROY G BIV Gallery.
